  • Rozaliman Zakaria wins Race 2 to keep his leading position in the Championship

    2016 SAC Rd2 R2 Podium

The Yukio Kagayama produced SUZUKI ASIAN CHALLENGE (SAC) held its second round of the 2016 season in Chang International Circuit located in Buriram, Thailand. SAC is SUZUKI’s rider development program for Asian riders, using the single platform SUZUKI Satria F150.

The 2016 season has already seen 3 winners in 3 races, and #87 Muhammad Sapril (Indonesia) won Race 1 at Buriram, with #20 Jefri Tosema (Indonesia), and #22 Eane Jaye Solacito Sobretodo (Philippines) coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the warm-up session held in the morning of Race 2, Sobretodo hits the top of the board, with #14 Arsyad Rusydi (Singapore) and Zakaria following Sobretodo.

Race 2 started at 13:15 in the afternoon, which was probably the most hottest time of the day. It didn’t take time for the top group to form, with seven to eight riders forming the group. Race 2 became one of the most cleanest race in SAC history, with riders respecting their rivals, with no contact nor penalties until the chequered flag. The leader changed several times in each lap, but is was Zakaria who finished first at finish. Race 1 winner, Sapril came in 2nd, while his teammate Tosema came in 3rd to complete the podium. The only multi-winner this season, Zakaria keeps his position as the point leader so far in the season.

The next round of the SUZUKI ASIAN CHALLENGE will be held June 3-5 at Suzuka, Japan.

I changed my sprocket setting for Race 2, and had the confidence to win. I made a good start to lead the race, but I was passed several times. Each time I was passed, I told myself not to panick, and concentrated on where I wanted to be in the final lap. I made the right decision and I am happy I was able to win the race. I will try my best to concentrate in every race, and keep this point leader position until the end of the season.

We introduced the all new Satria F150 from this round, so the staff were very busy during the race weekend, but we were able to finish the weekend without any major trouble. I thank all of the staff involved, Suzuki, Dunlop, and all of my sponsors to make this happen. The riders were able to get used to the new machine quickly, and at the end lapped about 2 seconds faster than last year, so I am happy that they showed us the potential of the new F150. The riders raced very cleanly in this hot heat, and I am also happy that I was able to see the riders improve.

It is easy to say where the point is to succeed at this race course at Buriram, and using the slip stream correctly is very important here. I am to see that the riders took this advice, and raced well. Next race is at Suzuka, and Suzuka is a very difficult course. I am sure that the experience here in Buriram will benefit the riders at Suzuka as well, and hope to see them grow more at Suzuka.
